Title: Field Test Engineer, Substation & High Voltage Location: Portland, OR This position requires approximately 60% domestic travel.
Description:
- Work with wind farm construction groups and sub-contractors in commissioning and testing of substations, transmission interconnection facilities, and other power delivery systems, ensuring compliance with design standards and validating accuracy of final documentation and test data.
- Work with other stakeholders to develop, implement, and monitor BOP Standard Design Practices to ensure uniform design, installation, and operation across all sites.
- Provide training for Operations personnel on safety hazard recognition, metering and relay basics, high and medium voltage circuit breakers and switches, substation and GSU transformers. This training is designed to promote a safe working environment for all employees.
- Manage internal and external personnel conducting BOP maintenance to Company, State, and Federal regulations.
- Adhere to effective internal controls.
Requirements:
- BS Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have 10+ years experience in electrical substation, transmission system, distribution systems operations up to 230kV, or power generation design and construction.
- Must have demonstrated recent experience in SEL Relay operations.
- Ability to climb 80 meter steel towers on occasional basis to perform root cause analysis investigation on turbine component failures (uptower MV transformer).
- Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management, and reporting systems. Must be able to use computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics/electrical one-line diagrams.
- Possession of comprehensive writing skills for upwards reporting.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment. (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, meghommeters, and various hand and power tools.)
- Adheres to effective internal controls.
- Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Registered Professional Engineer, Electrical.
- Demonstrated design and operations experience with distribution and sub-transmission substations voltages up to 500 kV.
- Substation commissioning and testing experience
