Summary: 

Responsible for assisting with organizing the department and developing and managing the economic and market research and analysis agenda, ensuring that its investment and policy choices are guided by strong economic analysis.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide analyses and forecasts of the regional maritime economy, as well as monitor national and global trends. 
  • Manage the application of cost-benefit analysis to prioritize capital projects and ensure that capital resources are used to maximize performance. 
  • Develop and use additional decision support tools to assist in strategic planning, business planning, capital planning and performance measurement, to advance its strategic vision and guide investment and policy choices. 
  • Provide guidance and assistance to line businesses on forecasting issues, business planning and long-term trends in the economy affecting their respective businesses. 
  • Assist in providing regular and timely advice to Management on economic issues. 
  • Oversee economic impact analyses. 
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with strategic partners and economists at public, private, academic, and not-for-profit organizations in the region.

 

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree, Master’s or Ph.D. in Economics.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience and successful track record in applied economics and strategic planning. 
  • Excellent managerial skills, including proven ability to lead, work in teams, mentor staff, and inspire staff commitment to technical excellence and teamwork. 
  • Strong quantitative background in economic data analysis and forecasting. 
  • Demonstrated expertise and first-hand experience in cost-benefit analysis, economic impact analysis methodologies, econometric modeling, as well as other economic decision support tools. 
  • Superior ability to communicate economic ideas, orally and in writing, to a varied audience. 
  • Experience, knowledge, or interest in maritime industry or transportation economics is highly desirable.  
  • Knowledge of the Houston metropolitan region’s economy and demographics helpful.
